I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of SolusOS Eveline Release Candidate 4
Many new features, fixes, and software versions have made their way into RC4. We hope you enjoy using this release. Please note that you can upgrade to final from the Release Candidates when the time is ready.
Important issues were addressed in this release, namely the issue involving a missing “build” symlink that
caused kernel module compilation to fail. This mainly affected Vbox and nVidia users. The FirstRunWizard
has also now been rectified, allowing AMD/ATi users to automatically install the proprietary graphics
driver.
We’ve also included a whole suite of new application versions: Firefox 12.0, Thunderbird 12.0.1,
LibreOffice 3.5.3.2, Minitube 1.7, Flash 11.2.202.233, VLC 2.0.1. Several fixes also found their way
into these, most notably the Flash performance issues (glitches) and overheating issues on laptops.
The artwork was slightly updated to use the gnome elementary icon theme and desktop compositing is now
reenabled giving a crisper desktop experience.
The installer had some of its behaviour reverted in order to incorporate a single-disk installation policy.
This was done because we are phasing it out and it’s being used as in intrim measure. You shouldn’t experience
any delays or long installs using it.
We’ve taken the step of including PlayOnLinux making it easier
to run Windows applications with minimal fuss. Those wanting more flexibility can use wine-unstable from
the repositories (currently at 1.5.0)
In a nut-shell, we’re confident this is an excellent release and are therefore calling it “prefinal”

Will there be 64bit RC4 or I Must wait for final?
We were more hoping for a final release with 64-bit but people seem to prefer the notion of a 64-bit prefinal too.
See how the community wants it I guess
32-bit with PAE enabled is just fine.
I’m impressed. Waiting for the final release, but of course until then I will try RC4.
Hope you enjoy testing
This is an excellent distro and much better than Ubuntu 12.04…please release x64 bit version soon!
Thank you very much! That’ll be done very very soon!
Just to be clear: I can upgrade from the release candidateS (so also RC3) to the final version, right?
Yes indeed I’ll release proper upgrade paths before long ^^
When I click on the SolusOS wiki link in community section it goes to your home page.
Sorry man I’m in the middle of porting the wiki, I’ll fix it now.
Absolutely LOVE SolusOS. Great distro that is now running on both my laptop and desktop. Very intuitive, efficient and beautiful.
Is there a way to upgrade from RC3 to RC4? Tried a “dist-upgrade” to no avail.
Many thanks!
Release path coming soon, thank you and I’m glad you like it
Thanks for the quick response! You don’t see that very often.
PS- The only thing missing is a killer website to match a killer OS. Any plans to overhaul the site?
Derrick what you mean?
I was very happy with LMDE until update 4 caused many duplicate software in the system. Now this looks like the OS I am looking for. Stable and still elegant software selection with plenty of configuration options.
Gnome 2 was developed for so long time, and finally they say: Gnome 2 is over. No it isn’t. I think it is time to use it with the newest apps.
Are the menu and panels configurable like in Gnome 2? (Possibility to add a new panel, panel applets, switch to default gnome menu etc.) In other words, does it provide all what can be found in default Gnome 2?
Sure enough you can use it just like regular Gnome 2
Glad you like it!
Perfect! Subscribing to RSS and waiting for the final release
Cool!
Going to give this a try. Remember hearing Ikey on the MintCast awhile ago.
Hope you enjoy!
Awesome realease ikey! I am looking forward to installing this on my primary machine :d Thank you for providing the Debian Linux community with an awesome OS :d
Best regards,
Timothy
Thanks man Glad you’re enjoying, and no worries ^^
Loving the atii/amd patches :d
Cool, very glad its working, bit of a crucial feature that lol
Yeah :d. Now I have no excuse to not to use Debian (solusos). In fact the reason why I stayed away from other Debian based distros was because there wasn’t a “additional driver” installer. Do you have any plans of including a patched version of Mate? For an alt desktop environment?
Best wishes,
Timothy
Oh you mean in SolusOS2? Got one better than that We’ll be using a patched Gnome 3 fallback session,
with full Gnome 2 compatability (applets, etc). Already got it working here ) Old panel bindings ported
to DBUS/GTK3, no hardware acceleration required and it looks and acts identical to Gnome 2
Sweet!! Full gnome2 support xd. I’m on the bandwagon along with all the other gnome2 fans . I really don’t understand why the gnome2 project was abandoned.. But it has been revived with A new project called Solusos
So in SolusOS 2 there will be no gnome 2.30 only gnome 3 fallback?
its not the standard fallback. you wont be able to tell the difference between it and gnome 2
think of it as a gtk3 gnome 2
Just wondering, have you contacted Blue systems for a possible sponsorship? They sponsor kubuntu and Linux mint :d. Thank you!!
I haven’t actually tbh. We’re in talks with a very respectable company at the moment so I’m giving them the time
and priority first
Cool!! It’s very nice to hear good news
installed on both machines, no install issues… very slick and easy.
Thanks!
That’s what we like to hear! Thanks for taking the time to try it out

Do you have any future plans to have a torrent download available?
Thanks.
I’ve tried rc4 it’s awesome congrats.I’m keep waiting for 64 to reinstall my system finally.
off: I hope solusos2 + gnome 3 to be successful and don’t kill the project.
The main reason I choose SolusOS for primary os on all of my pc’s is gnome 2.
“… think of it as a gtk3 gnome 2″ – That is the point! The biggest disgusting of many people with the gnome 3 – is the way how they are implementing the graphic environment.
Are you using the cinnamon like a base?
I know, which is why we’re doing our own custom version. It’ll operate exactly the same
as Gnome 2 on SolusOS I promise
any chance we can get newer compiz with the snap feature
What version?
well it started with whatever version was in ubuntu natty i think….maybe this version can do it and i just dont know the settings, but its 9+
Just a quick heads up. The needed files for internet connection sharing are not installed by default which is kinda a hassle. dnsmasq-base, and dnsutils needed to be installed to get connection sharing up and running. Not a super big deal but most all distros have this be default. Other than that this is the most eye pleasing, and at the same time resource saving distro ive used. Very nice.
I’ll make sure they go into final, thanks
Will it install on an external USB hard disk ?
No reason why not Should boot from it normally but in the case of boot issues try getting your main
bootloader to register it (i.e. add to grub’s menu)
Please some one tell me so that I may download. Have tried the LinuxMint and love it.
Installer not recognizing any partitions I have ext 3 /boot, ext 4 / , swap, ext 4 /home. really confused here I love this distro cant see what I did wrong. I’m obviously missing something If you could tell me that would be great
Unfortunately there is a random issue with live usb (not affecting everyone). Not entirely sure what it is but
it can be rectified in most cases by using unetbootin to create the live usb or using a dvd and burning the ISO
to that
Thanks for ignoring my post above. I’ll try this one more time;
ANY PLANS FOR TORRENTS??????
No need to shout I haven’t always got time to reply to posts as I’m invariably busy developing
SolusOS and getting ready for the final release.
If you look at /download/ you’ll see a button with a torrent link. Should be fast
Guys how are the torrents doing?
torrents are very fast indeed, I was able to download SolusOS wihtin 30 minutes
Great job. Love what you have done. Only one glitch on RC4 I found is that I cannot get a FTP Server (VSFTP etc) to install. Strange!
Even VMware Workstation 8.0.2 installed. Have not been able to install this on any of the Ubuntu/Mint 12.X Varients running a Linux 3.X kernel.
I run Debian 6.X right now, and I can immediately see many of your improvements.
Keep up the good work!!
Thank you very much! If you jump in on the forums you might get some help on that issue
Hi guys, absolut beautifull and great distro! The only thing wich doesnt work is, when I use my dockingstation with an extra monitor the screen on both keeps black on boot. But anything else just works fine for now. I hate Gnome 3 KDE 4 and Unity and I’m glad someone keeps working on gnome 2. Hopefully for a long time…
Cheers, Michael
Hi, have a latest version of chromium too?
and thnx for ur awesome job
If you are using virtual box and are receiving this error message…”The kernel requires the following feature not present on the CPU: PAE”, “Unable to boot, Please use a kernel appropriated for your cpu…” A quick fix would to go to your vb settings –> system—> processor –> and enable PAE. Make your you are not running any machines simultaneously. Just a heads up for the New SolusOS users! Enjoy! and Thank you Ikey!
Best regards,
Tim
Willing to try, but so far very frustrated. My old toshiba is currently loaded with Xubuntu 12.04
Where do I find those vb settings? Where are they?
Perfecto, ya la tengo instalada, maravillosa
Un magnífico trabajo
Greetings from Spain
Awesome distro, kinda useless to me being only 32 bit though.
I have been running RC4 for a day now on my main box. The only problem is getting my ancient Epson Stylus Color 760 going as I need to install additional CUPS drivers. (Already logged as a bug, no. 992592.)
A matter of opinion but could the text on this site be made to have a higher contrast with the background? It is quite stressful to my old eyes when reading for long periods here.
By the way; you’ve made a bloody good job of this distribution Ikey, I’m really looking forward to the final release of SolusOS 1.0.
Why not download it now then?
Wasn’t aware CUPS was still acting the … anyway. I’ll try to fix via package updates. Seamless++
Cheers mate, hope all is well
It’s amazing. I think that is a one perfect distro.I think that is a stable distro, and it is mixed that debian stable and debian testing.
For example it has new kernel (testing) and gnome 2 (stable).
It’s cool and more interesting.
I’m sorry for my poor english ,but I hope that you understand me!
Greetings!!!
