Secondary Shoes and News

Hello everyone - just wanted to share some updates with you!

First, some of you might see this post hasn't been written by Ikey.  Good eye!  I'm Justin Krehel, and I'm one of the founders of the SolusOS project with Ikey.  I've been silently working away on the backend, and sometimes not so silently in the IRC as a pair of "secondary shoes" so to speak in the project.  I've been helping to lay the groundwork and direction for SolusOS 1 and 2 with Ikey while he's been the public face of the project and has been developing many great solutions we've discussed until wee hours of the morning.  His character gives this project spirit like none other.

A little about me:  I am currently in my mid-twenties and employed as a sysadmin, living in the US.  I've been a Linux user for approximately 10 years.  My specialty and role within SolusOS is one of project management, planning, roadmapping, documentation, bugs/testing/packaging, and building other solutions.  I will be working closely going between the community and other developers, helping to manage upcoming deadlines and projects, and ensuring project direction is spot on.  My main role is not as a programmer, but I will be supporting all other aspects of SolusOS just as I have been.  When the time comes for me to do that, I will be stepping into that role as well.  I look forward to working with everyone in a larger capacity than I have been, and you all will be hearing more from me in the future!

Now, let's get to some SolusOS related news shall we?

SolusOS 1.3
Ikey and I are both working away on SolusOS 1.3, which will be a maintenance release.  We will be updating several packages such as Firefox and Libreoffice, a push to a 3.7 series kernel, and some of the latest drivers.  This is not an all inclusive list- as there are other packages and bugfixes to be addressed as well.  We are deprecating FirstRunWizard in SolusOS 1.3; all functions of FRW will be integrated into SolusCC.  We anticipate a release no later than Feburary 22nd.

SolusOS 2.0
We have been working tirelessly on SolusOS 2.0 and planning directions we want to go.  We are looking at updates, software, and the overall design of SolusOS 2 to see what can be improved upon and where we can do so.  We are looking into how to best work with PiSi in the system and utilize it to its full potential - this involves exploring many different routes to see what is best overall.  PiSi is a very powerful tool, and one we are excited to work with.  Ikey has been waist-deep working on Consort and other packages, while I've been exploring the alternative routes.  We appreciate your patience as we work!

Stay tuned for more updates from both of us - I look forward to working with everyone in a closer capacity.  We deeply appreciate your support, it means everything to us!
