Just a quick update. Recently I’ve been tackling the problem that is Nautilus in SolusOS 2. As many have noticed it doesn’t work in the same manner as seen in SolusOS 1. So as part of the new mad hatter patching effort I’ve used a modified version of kirby33′s nautiluspatch, which restores some of the older well known Nautilus Toolbar actions.
Once you upgrade you’ll notice we’ve set a dependency on nautilus-emblems. In SolusOS 1 we used the folder/file emblems a lot and we believe its a great feature, so we wanted everyone using it in the alphas so they know that its still around We’ve put the toolbar buttons back to the start of the toolbar, not at the end like in Gnome 3.4′s default Nautilus. The idea is eventually you’ll be able to upgrade from SolusOS 1 to SolusOS 2, and to be honest we want it to be seamless, no new learning curve. The last level of patching for Nautilus will put the toolbar just under the menubar and across the whole window, instead of restricted to each pane. We’ll let you know when we’ve finished.
Update:
There was an issue with Nautilus whereby the home directory name was replaced with “Home” on the pathbar, giving “incorrect” paths like /home/Home/Desktop. As you can see in the above screenshots this has also been fixed
Currently our nautilus can now create launchers, has a more traditional toolbar layout/actions and doesn’t use symbolic icons as well as using emblems by default. This, combined with our other GNOME work, is moving at a very rapid pace.
Anyway that’s all from me. In the mean time, enjoy SolusOS
Nice!! Excelent idea:
put the toolbar buttons back to the start of the toolbar
Not finished yet )
You are AWESOME, this MUST be GNOME 3, not this confusing thing called Shell
Glad you like it ^^
extraordinary, thank you very much for all the work
Thanks for the continued support
The Dark knight is a great movie :d, Anyways very nice patch! I really love what you are doing ikey! Keep up the great work!! Can’t wait for final release, atm, i am using Fuduntu as i ditched Ubuntu xd
Thanks timothy Indeed, a great movie. Going to see the new one on the 20th with my girlfriend
Anyways, totally offtopic xD Next move is fixing that darned toolbar, it looks wrong to me
Nice work. Are you able to shed more light on the “other GNOME work” you’re working on?
Indeed. We’re going for RGBA transparency in themes and the panel, if the user so wishes. Proper theming via theme packages, a GNOME 2 compatibility layer to allow GNOME 2 applets to run under the Solus Desktop, easy app/applet creation through our own tools, system privacy + optimization tools, real screensavers, the ability to use GDM themes under LightDM (new frontend), etc. There’s loads
looks very well and i like your idea to have always actual software. for beginners will be something to have lethe because is better to try something first to see if it works and then install it in the real system. a backup solution for system, programs and settings would be also great!
maybe there is something in the linux world but a beginner don|t know that and how to configure it to do the job done.
i hope your system will be also for people like me who don t know much about linux.
The idea is a system usable by all
That’s right.
Now , you are one of the most important figures in the world of Linux, congratulations.
I think very soon you will be tired of dealing with the problems of gnome, you should create your own desktop.
Well I wouldn’t say I was that important Diego
Hey Ikey, I hope you can read this and answer me.
SolusOS is everything I was looking for: stability, gnome2 \O/ and new packages (at least, newer than Debian ).
Well, I installed SolusOS 1 on a VM for testing and it worked quite good. But then I read about SolusOS 2, and I’d like to know when you’re planning to release it, or at least tell me if it’s stable enough for daily using.
Regards,
Matheus
It’s up to you to decide whether its stable enough for your daily use or not.
I can’t put my arse on the line saying it is, when it’s alpha Give it
a whirl and see what you make of it, probably the best option
Thanks, I will set it in my notebook
greetings from chile
Any idea yet when Solus Os2 Beta1 will be released?
My k3b disc burner awaits (lol)…
Soon
i understand usable by all but the problem is that this is not the reality. if a beginner knows that there is a possibility to try something and nothing wrong could happend and if there is a problem the system will be back with some kind of restore then you will be the champion in the linux world. fact is that the only solution offered by the majority of the distros is to install the system again. i have to trust a system and without this things i can’t and this is the problem for the most of the people. take the fear and give trust! mint also offers nothing in this metter. problems?! let’s start the instalation again!
Is SolusOs 2 Beta 1 a rolling release or will I need to re-install it when the final release comes?
SolusOS 2 ISO’s are currently non-upgradable.
