About this release
This release now features the Consort Desktop, which is a fork of the GNOME Fallback Desktop + Components (3.4). This will eventually be a distro-agnostic desktop environment providing the classic experience of GNOME 2 in a GTK3 environment. We encourage everyone to test, not just the distribution, but the desktop itself.
New Features/Addressed Issues
- Consortium (Metacity fork) now has side by side window tiling. Drag a window to a screen edge to try it out
- Issues with “shadow trails” and “Latent shadow boxes” left behind by tooltips, dnd icons and menus are gone
- consort-panel is now fully usable. gnome-applets has also been forked into consort-applets to undergo active development.
- Cardapio Menu has been dropped for now. This will be reintroduced once the Python Panel Compatibility Layer is complete
- The overall system is lighter and more responsive
- Athena now works with all themes by using monochromatic toolbar and view-toggler icons
- LibreOffice translations were included, which prevented LibreOffice starting on Alpha 6
- The System menu in the “Custom menubar” applet has been restored. More work will be done on this in the future. For now it is the default menu of Consort.
- And a whole lot more is now happening over on github. We’ll keep you updated on any significant changes
Known Issues
Being an alpha release there are bound to be problems. Some well known issues:
- GParted comlains about a recursive error on /dev/hdc, this is kernel related
- VirtualBox/DKMS has problems and will not install, again due to kernel problems
- Consortium may crash when disabling compositing but it will restart. This is a newly introduced bug and is being looked into
- Volume Applet appears to take a while to load (This is being rewritten soon)
Last but not least
Thank you to everyone involved in SolusOS. Without your help none of this would be possible. We
hope you enjoy this release as much as we have enjoyed creating it

Download links updated, apologies
Great Work, Ikey!!!
Thanks =)
That’s a great project! Thx for doing it…
What do you think about ubuntu indicators which were previously used in GNOME 2.x by Ubuntu, and now they’re part of Unity experience… I’d love to see them as part of this amazing job (at least as an option)… Ubuntu 10.10 was my the best distro ever but i haven’t been used it since these innovators changed direction totally
This project has a lot of potential!
Thank you very much bart
I actually added those today!
